Oorlogstijd Herinneringen En Indrukken

A historical account written in the early 20th century. The work reflects Treub's personal experiences and observations during the tumultuous period surrounding World War I, emphasizing his insights into the socio-economic impacts of the war on the Netherlands. At the start of the book, Treub introduces the context of his reflections, noting that his observations are limited to his firsthand experiences rather than military events he did not witness. He acknowledges the unexpected nature of the war's onset in July 1914, detailing the panic and confusion that enveloped the country, affecting civilians and government alike. Treub also highlights his privileged position of witnessing the diligence of H. M. the Queen during this crisis and expresses gratitude for the opportunity to document his experiences, setting the stage for a more in-depth exploration of the various governmental measures taken in response to the war's challenges in the following chapters.
