Published in 1845, 'Observations on the Present State of the Affairs of the River Plate' by Thomas Baines is a historical account of the political and military conflicts in the River Plate region, particularly the war between Buenos Ayres and Uruguay. Baines argues for British and French intervention to restore peace and protect Uruguayan independence, emphasizing the implications for British commercial interests. The book provides insights into the besieged city of Monte Video and the broader consequences of regional instability on trade and sovereignty.
