Nova Scotia's Part in the Great War

This book stands as a vital primary document from the early twentieth century, capturing Nova Scotia's profound sacrifice and contribution to the Great War. Written with deep provincial pride, it documents the soldiers who enlisted, the sailors who crewed the merchant marine and naval vessels, and the communities that sustained the war effort from the home front. Hunt meticulously records the formations of military units raised from Halifax to Cape Breton, their training, their departures for European battlefields, and the patriotic organizations that supported them. The narrative extends beyond simple chronology, examining how a small maritime province with a modest population came to play an outsized role in a global conflict that would reshape the modern world. For readers interested in Canadian military history, regional perspectives on WWI, or the evolution of national identity during wartime, this volume provides invaluable firsthand testimony of a province answering the call to arms.
