North Devon Pottery and Its Export to America in the 17th Century

Published in 1960, 'North Devon Pottery and Its Export to America in the 17th Century' by C. Malcolm Watkins provides a detailed historical account of the ceramics produced in North Devon, particularly in Barnstaple and Bideford. The book explores the cultural significance of these pottery types, including sgraffito ware and gravel-tempered ware, and their role in trade between England and the American colonies. It also discusses archaeological findings from sites like Jamestown and Plymouth, shedding light on the domestic life of early American colonists and the impact of North Devon pottery on their quality of life.
