Noble Woman The Life-Story of Edith Cavell
Noble Woman: The Life-Story of Edith Cavell, published in 1916 by Ernest Protheroe, chronicles the life of British nurse Edith Cavell (1865–1915). During World War I, she provided care to soldiers from both sides and facilitated the escape of around 200 Allied soldiers from German-occupied Belgium. Her arrest and subsequent execution by a German firing squad for treason sparked international outrage and led to her becoming a symbol of wartime heroism and sacrifice, with numerous memorials established in her honor.
