Murtovarkaus; Roinilan Talossa
Murtovarkaus; Roinilan Talossa is a late 19th-century play by Finnish author Minna Canth, exploring themes of love, social status, and tradition in rural Finland. The story revolves around young lovers Niilo and Helena, whose relationship is complicated by societal expectations and the ambitions of others, particularly Loviisa, who seeks to marry Niilo for her own advantage. The play also features Penttula, a village sorcerer whose actions lead to dramatic consequences, including Helena's wrongful accusation of theft. Canth, a pioneering figure in Finnish literature and women's rights, was the first woman to write for Finnish newspapers and advocated for girls' education.
