Mother West Wind 'why' Stories

Step into a world where animals speak, the wind has a voice, and every curious question finds an answer. Thornton W. Burgess created a tender, interconnected universe in these stories, where Grandfather Frog sits on his mossy throne dispensing wisdom, the Merry Little Breezes dance through meadows, and Striped Chipmunk learns why he wears his distinctive stripes. Each tale begins with a 'why' - why the owl has big eyes, why the rabbit hops, why certain creatures behave as they do - and answers unfold through adventure, humor, and small acts of courage. The animal folk of the Green Meadow and the Smiling Pool live together in gentle harmony, their disagreements resolved through conversation rather than conflict. These are stories that reward curiosity while quietly teaching kindness, responsibility, and the importance of looking out for one another. Perfect for reading aloud at bedtime or sharing during quiet afternoons, this collection has been warming the hearts of families for over a century.
