''Minutes of the Proceedings of the Second Convention of Delegates from the Abolition Societies Established in different Parts of the United States'' is a historical account published in the late 18th century. This book documents the proceedings of a significant gathering of abolitionist delegates in Philadelphia between January 7 and January 14, 1795. It addresses topics central to the abolition movement, particularly focusing on the strategies and resolutions aimed at promoting the end of slavery in the United States. The content of the book provides a detailed overview of the convention’s discussions, decisions, and committee reports. Delegates from various states convened to elect a president, Benjamin Rush, and to collaboratively strategize about legislative action, public awareness, and the alleviation of the conditions faced by enslaved individuals. Committees were formed to address specific issues, including public addresses to be made about the abolition of slavery and the need for educational opportunities for freed individuals. The convention also resolved to request support from different state legislatures aimed at prohibiting the slave trade and improving the legal status of freedmen, reflecting the collective efforts of abolition societies to promote systematic change in societal attitudes towards slavery.
