Memories of the Kaiser's Court

Published in 1914, 'Memories of the Kaiser's Court' by Anne Topham offers a firsthand account of her experiences as the English governess to Princess Victoria Louise, daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, from 1902 to 1909. Topham provides a detailed portrayal of the complexities of royal life in pre-World War I Germany, highlighting the eccentricities of the Kaiser and the stark contrasts between British and Prussian customs. Her candid observations reveal both the charm and the underlying tensions of the court, making this memoir a significant historical document of the era.
