Memoirs of a country doll. Written

What if your childhood toy could tell its own story? In this delightfully peculiar 1850s gem, a porcelain doll named Josephine narrates her memoirs with surprising wit andObserving the world from her small, fragile perspective reveals unexpected humor. Sold to a little girl in the countryside, Josephine recounts her new life with disarming charm - the pretty dresses, the visit to see Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and the day she tumbled from a carriage window into a bed of burdock leaves, where caterpillars became unwelcome companions. The prose carries a gentle, self-aware humor that feels remarkably modern despite its Victorian origins. Mary Curtis gives her doll narrator a voice that is equal parts innocent and knowing, capturing the way children invest their toys with full inner lives. This is a fascinating slice of literary history - one of the earliest examples of a toy narrating its own story, predating many beloved modern children's classics. It offers readers a window into Victorian childhood: the material culture of dress and play, the tenderness between children and their companions, and the small dramas that loom large in a young life.
