Mei-Droom: Een Feestelijk Verbeeldingsspel in Acht Tooneelen

An early 20th century Dutch festival play that transforms theater into ritual. Written in eight scenes, it unfolds as a celebration of spring's arrival, where the natural world awakens from winter's sleep. Mei, the personification of May, enters as a vibrant force of renewal, breathing color and movement into a landscape of weeping willows and blooming flowers. Young newlyweds wander through this awakening world, their tender exchanges echoing the season's promise of love and hope. The playwright designed this work for full theatrical staging, yet envisioned it equally for open-air morning performances where audience and performers share in the celebration. Blending eurhythmics, poetry, and visual spectacle, the play represents a bold departure from realism toward symbolic, immersive theater. The language shimmers with lyrical imagery, inviting readers into a dream-like space where nature's cycles become a meditation on transformation and joy.
