Methodist missionary; from Ontario to Winnipeg, 1868; during Red River Rebellion acted as Thomas Scott's chaplain before his execution; founded the Wesleyan Institute, 1873; stationed in Ontario, 1876-1879; at Emerson, Manitoba, 1879-1882; appointed superintendent of Manitoba & Northwest conference of Methodist Church, 1882; superannuated, 1884 (Morgan, Canadian men and women of the time , 1898; Wallace, Dictionary of Canadian biography ). // Sutherland, Alexander Hugh: 1870-1952. Descendant of Red River settlers; connected with the Union Bank and later with the Royal Bank of Canada in Winnipeg; poet; retired to Victoria. // The most interesting portion of the book deals with the Riel Rebellion.
