Lux Mundi: A Series of Studies in the Religion of the Incarnation,10th Edition, 1890

In the late 1880s, as Darwin's theory and biblical criticism threatened to dismantle traditional Christianity, a group of Oxford theologians gathered to forge a new path. The result was Lux Mundi, a landmark collection of essays that sought to demonstrate how the doctrine of the Incarnation could absorb modern knowledge without breaking. These Anglo-Catholic scholars accepted critical scholarship and scientific advancement not as enemies of faith, but as invitations to a deeper understanding of Christ's revelation. The work represents a pivotal moment in Victorian religious thought: the attempt to be intellectually honest without surrendering doctrinal conviction. For readers interested in how faith has always contended with its era's hardest questions, this volume offers a window into one of the 19th century's most sophisticated theological projects.
