Little Frida: A Tale of the Black Forest

The Black Forest holds secrets, and one winter night, woodcutter Wilhelm Hörstel finds one: a child, alone, abandoned among the ancient trees. Little Frida has been searching for her father, lost somewhere in those dark woods, and when Wilhelm carries her home to his waiting wife and son, he brings with him a question that will test everything this humble family believes about love, sacrifice, and what it means to belong. This forgotten gem of late 19th-century German literature weaves the stark beauty of the Black Forest with the intimate drama of a community transformed by an orphaned girl's faith. Through Frida's desperate search for her father and the family who must decide whether to keep her or help her find her true origins, the novel explores the fragile mathematics of love: how it multiplies when shared, how it breaks when hope dims, and how sometimes the bonds we choose matter more than the ones we are born into. It is a story for anyone who has ever wondered what we owe to children who need us, and what we owe to the truth.
