Life in a Railway Factory

Written in the early 20th century, 'Life in a Railway Factory' by Alfred Williams provides a detailed account of the daily lives of workers at the Great Western Railway's manufacturing facility in Swindon. Drawing from his 23 years of experience, Williams explores labor conditions, industrial practices, and the socio-economic changes affecting the working class. The book critiques the hierarchical dynamics that diminish workers' dignity and highlights the camaraderie and struggles within the labor force, making it a significant historical document on industrial life in Great Britain.
