Letters to His Friends

Letters to His Friends offers an intimate portrait of Forbes Robinson, a Cambridge fellow whose brilliant life was cut short at thirty-seven. Collected from his years at Rossall and Christ's College, these letters reveal a man of sharp wit, deep Christian faith, and unexpected tenderness. Robinson wrote with disarming honesty about his struggles with doubt, his love of literature, and his conviction that friendship itself was a form of spiritual discipline. The correspondence captures the intellectual electricity of late Victorian Cambridge, where theology and literature interwove with boisterous humor and earnest conversation. Yet what emerges most powerfully is Robinson's generosity as a mentor, his ability to see potential in others and encourage it with warmth that transcended his natural reserve. These are letters from another era of letter-writing, when distance made words precious and friendship required cultivation across miles. They document a life that mattered enormously to those who knew him, and preserve the kind of influence that lingers long after the writer is gone.
