Kittyboy's Christmas

The story opens on a bitter-cold night when a little black kitten named Kittyboy, lost and shivering, slips through the window of Dr. Brewster's house. The bachelor doctor intends to find the cat's owner or send it back to the streets, but Kittyboy's playful charm works its magic. Soon the doctor finds himself not only keeping the kitten but also answering the letters to Santa Claus that a young girl named Elinor Temple has left on his doorstep. As Christmas approaches, Dr. Brewster's quiet life transforms. He provides for children in need, helps Elinor find the family she longs for, and discovers that sometimes the greatest gift is the one that arrives unannounced. Written in 1898, this is Victorian warmth at its most genuine: a tale of unexpected family and the way one small act of kindness can ripple outward to fulfill a child's deepest wish.
