Kelion Franklin Peddicord of Quirk's Scouts, Morgan's Kentucky Cavalry, C. S. a.

A rare glimpse into the life of a Confederate cavalryman, written in the twilight of the Lost Cause era. Kelion Franklin Peddicord served in Morgan's Kentucky Cavalry, and this 1903 biography traces his journey from upbringing through the war's chaos. The narrative begins with the Peddicord family lineage, establishing roots several generations deep before introducing the man himself. What emerges is both a personal portrait and a period document: Logan writes with the intimacy of family knowledge, recounting skirmishes, the grind of cavalry life, and the emotional weight of defeat. The book carries the particular melancholy of memory from someone who lived through Reconstruction and wrote just after its end. For Civil War historians, genealogists, or anyone drawn to primary sources from the period, it offers granular detail on Kentucky's Confederate minority and the texture of a soldier's experience filtered through decades of reflection.
