Initiative in Evolution

Initiative in Evolution, published in 1920 by Walter Kidd, is a scientific treatise that delves into the debates surrounding evolutionary theory, particularly Lamarckism and Darwinism. The book examines how modifications in organisms arise from inherited traits and environmental responses, using the arrangement of mammalian hair as a key example. Kidd's work emphasizes the importance of questioning established doctrines in the study of evolution, reflecting a shift in understanding adaptations across generations, especially in the context of post-World War I biological inquiry.
