Home Pastimes; or Tableaux Vivants

Home Pastimes; or Tableaux Vivants, written by James H. Head in the mid-19th century, is a guide to creating tableaux vivants—living pictures staged through performers and props. The book promotes the idea that art can enhance everyday life and encourages readers to appreciate and create beauty in their homes and communities. It provides detailed instructions on preparations, roles, and scene arrangements, making it accessible for both public and private enjoyment. This work highlights the universal appeal of artistic expression across all social classes.
