Home Lyrics: A Book of Poems

This collection opens with an act of profound tenderness: a dedication to the author's beloved son, establishing the emotional anchor for everything that follows. Battersby moves between intimate domestic scenes and broader meditations on the human condition, from the tender observation of a mother bird teaching her fledglings to the sobering reflections on war and its shadows. The poetry carries theEarnest weight of late Victorian verse, unafraid to name grief, memory, and love as the forces that shape a life. These are poems written in a slower age but speaking to something eternal: the way small moments of beauty sustain us, and the way loss, once admitted, becomes a companion we carry forward. The collection does not flinch from sorrow, but neither does it drown in it. There is light here, caught in the ordinary things, and it is that light which makes this volume endure.
