History of the Seventy-Second Regiment of the North Carolina Troops in the War…

The Seventy-Second Regiment North Carolina Troops were boys, some barely in their teens, who marched into the Civil War's bloodiest years. John Wetmore Hinsdale's meticulous account preserves what matters most: not the grand strategies of generals, but the specific courage of young men from one North Carolina community who fought, bled, and died together. Known as the Junior Reserves, these soldiers represented a generation consumed by a cause older than their years. Through rosters, battle narratives, and survivor testimonies, this regimental history captures the human texture of Confederate soldiering - the fear, the loyalty, the loss - with an intimacy that larger histories often miss. For readers seeking to understand how ordinary people experienced the war's devastation, this volume offers granular detail and quiet, lasting power.
