Highland Targets and Other Shields
1861
Highland Targets and Other Shields, written by James Drummond and first published in 1861, is a scholarly examination of Scottish antiquities, focusing on the armor and weapons used by Highland warriors. The book provides a detailed analysis of the 'Targaid' or Target shield, exploring its evolution, design, and cultural significance among Highland clans. Drummond compares these artifacts with similar items from other cultures, offering insights into their materials, craftsmanship, and historical context in warfare. This work fills a notable gap in Scotland's archaeological literature regarding these important relics.
