Heavenly Gifts

In 1960s America, Mrs. Frisbee is an ordinary woman whose simple faith leads her to a revivalist meeting. But when she begins communicating with what she believes is a divine force, her prayers start producing tangible results, gifts that materialize from thin air. Her modest life transforms into something wondrous. Yet when similar phenomena occur elsewhere under highly classified circumstances, the military takes notice. National security teams mobilize. A woman who only wanted spiritual fulfillment finds herself at the center of a Cold War investigation. Kolom's 1963 novel sits at the collision of the miraculous and the bureaucratic, asking what happens when the divine starts answering prayers in a world obsessed with control and secrecy. It's a fascinating period piece that treats faith with genuine curiosity rather than cynicism, while the military subplot adds genuine tension. For readers who enjoy early speculative fiction that takes religion seriously as a subject.
