Grounded

Three pilots dead. One survivor. The official story says pilot error. But Lieutenant Colonel Martin knows what he saw: a gleaming disc over the California mountains, moving in ways no aircraft should move. He had his ship on autopilot, hands free to photograph it. The film came back blank. Now Washington wants answers, and the answers they want are the ones that won't implicate anyone or anything beyond the pale. Sambrot's 1950s paranoid masterpiece reads like a lost episode of The Twilight Zone filtered through the fog of Cold War paranoia. This is the genre at its most claustrophobic: no aliens needed, just the slow horror of an institution that protects itself by destroying anyone who threatens its version of reality. Martin isn't just fighting to prove what he saw. He's fighting to prove he hasn't lost his mind. The conclusion lands like a punch to the gut.
