Glorious Deeds of Australasians in the Great War

The earliest and most vivid account of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli, recorded within months of the 1915 campaign by a journalist who interviewed wounded survivors in London hospitals. E. C. Buley traces the Australasian soldiers from their enlistment in Australia and New Zealand through training in Egypt to the iconic, blood-soaked beaches where they forged a new national identity. This is not distant history but the raw testimony of men who were there, their courage and comradeship and terrible losses rendered in real time. Buley's admiration for his subjects never blinds him to the enemy; his tribute to Turkish fighting qualities adds uncommon depth to this urgent, now-canonical record of how the Anzac legend was born in blood and sacrifice.
