Furniture of the Olden Time

Furniture of the Olden Time, written by Frances Clary Morse and first published in 1902, provides a historical account of furniture design and craftsmanship in early America, particularly during the colonial period through the 18th century. The book examines various types of furniture, such as chests, cupboards, and bedsteads, while detailing the materials used and the craftsmen behind these creations. Morse illustrates the transition from English imports to locally crafted items and highlights the influence of Dutch and English styles, using historical inventories and anecdotes to emphasize the significance of furniture in domestic life.
