Francis Drake and the California Indians, 1579

Francis Drake and the California Indians, 1579, written by Robert F. Heizer in the mid-20th century, is a historical account of Sir Francis Drake's visit to the California coast and his interactions with local indigenous tribes, particularly the Coast Miwok. Heizer analyzes ethnographic, linguistic, and geographical evidence to pinpoint Drake's landing site, contributing to the understanding of early European-Native American encounters. This work highlights the complexities of historical narratives surrounding Drake's expedition and its impact on California's indigenous cultures.
