Published in 1952, 'Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, North Carolina' by Charles W. Porter III provides a historical account of early English colonization efforts in North America, particularly focusing on Sir Walter Raleigh's ventures and the 'Lost Colony' of Roanoke Island. The book details the establishment of the first colony in 1585, the subsequent attempt in 1587, and the mysterious disappearance of its settlers. As part of a series by the National Park Service, it emphasizes the significance of Fort Raleigh in American history and the challenges faced by early colonists, including interactions with Indigenous populations.
