Famous Composers and Their Works, Vol. 2

A boy from a humble Austrian village. A family too poor to nourish his gift. And then, at eight years old, a journey to Vienna that would change the history of music. This volume traces the extraordinary early life of Franz Joseph Haydn, from his origins in the provincial town of Rohrau through his transformation into the composer who would reshape the symphony and the string quartet. We meet the cousin who first recognized his talent, the parents whose ambition outweighed their means, and the young chorister who sang his way into St. Stephen's Cathedral and into destiny. Written in the early 20th century with an intimate, almost novelistic attention to detail, this is less a dry chronology than a vivid portrait of how genius is forged: through hardship, mentorship, and stubborn determination. For anyone who has ever wondered what hidden symphonies might exist in the most unlikely places.
