Fame and Fortune Weekly No. 4: A Game of Chance
Will Sommers works in the engine room of a factory, but he's destined for more. When he's not keeping the machines running, he's dreaming up schemes to transform a worthless swamp into a lucrative ice enterprise. His talent catches the eye of the company, but Will isn't content to simply climb the corporate ladder. He wants to own it. Meanwhile, he stumbles upon young Jessie Fairweather being harassed by the spoiled son of the local Squire, and his sense of justice won't let him look away. What follows is a story about a working-class hero who refuses to accept his station in life, who uses his mechanical genius to forge his own fortune, and who discovers that the best things in life might be worth more than any business deal. This is turn-of-the-century pulp fiction at its most energetic: a tale of ambition, romance, and the radical notion that merit should matter more than birthright.
