Fairy Tales, Volume 1 (of 2)
1907

These are the original fairy tales, before they were softened for nursery walls and Disney adaptations. The Brothers Grimm spent decades collecting these stories from storytellers across Germany, preserving something raw and ancient - tales where children are abandoned in forests, where the answer to a riddle is worth a kingdom, where the miller's daughter must spin straw into gold or lose her life. Volume One opens with Rumpelstiltskin, that strange little man who demands an impossible price, and unfolds into dozens more stories of enchanted beasts, faithful servants, clever peasants, and transformations both magical and bloody. The magic here is not polite. The moral lessons land hard. But within this darkness lies the deep architecture of story that has held human attention for centuries - the bones upon which every modern fantasy was built. These tales belong to no one and everyone. They have been told around fires for centuries, and they are waiting for you.
