Fables of Pilpay

Fables of Pilpay
Fables of Pilpay, attributed to Abdullah Ibn al-Muqaffaʿ, is a collection of moralistic stories that originated from the ancient Sanskrit text Panchatantra (200 BC – 300 AD). This work was first translated into Arabic by Ruzbeh and later by Ibn al-Muqaffaʿ, influencing numerous writers including La Fontaine and Jeanne-Marie LePrince de Beaumont. The fables feature anthropomorphized animals that embody human virtues and vices, offering insights into morality and ethics through interwoven narratives. Notably, the collection has undergone various adaptations, including translations by Joseph Harris in 1679 and a remodel in 1818.
