Ethel Morton's Enterprise

Three January birthdays. Three cousins who share everything, including a burning desire to grow something beautiful. It's January, snow blankets the ground, and Ethel Morton and her cousins are already dreaming of summer gardens, trading seeds, and the impossible green things they'll coax from the earth. This is a book that understands the particular magic of planning futures you can't yet touch: the excitement of ordering seed packets, the serious discussions about proper planting techniques, the way a shared passion can make a group of girls into something like a small, devoted society. Mabell S. C. Smith writes with gentle humor and genuine affection for her characters, capturing that liminal winter feeling when the world feels both dead and full of potential. If you've ever started a garden notebook in February or traced your finger over nursery catalogs while frost paints the window, this book remembers that feeling and names it.
