Dr. Hardhack's Prescription: A Play for Children in Four Acts

Dr. Hardhack's Prescription is a whimsical children's play written by K. McDowell Rice in the early 20th century. The narrative follows young Emily Proudie, who is considered delicate due to her sheltered upbringing, as her family seeks the unconventional Dr. Hardhack's advice. He prescribes a radical lifestyle change, advocating for outdoor activities and a natural existence to restore her health. The play humorously critiques societal norms regarding health and femininity, making it both entertaining and educational for children and families.
