Codex Exoniensis - The Exeter Book. A Collection of Anglo-Saxon Poetry
The Exeter Book, also known as Codex Exoniensis, is a collection of Anglo-Saxon poetry presented to the Cathedral of Exeter by Leofric, the first Bishop of Exeter, around the mid-11th century. It is the largest surviving manuscript of Old English literature, containing about one-sixth of all known Old English poetry. The work showcases distinctive features of Anglo-Saxon poetry, including alliteration, metaphor, and a trochaic structure with caesura. The manuscript is currently housed in the Cathedral Library at Exeter.
