Chinese Diamonds for the King of Kings

In the sweltering heat of a quiet Chinese village, an elderly woman named Mrs. Dwan watches a desperate father wheel his dying child toward a foreign hospital. She has heard the whispers about the missionaries, and she fears what they might do. What she witnesses next will unravel everything she believes. This is the opening sketch in a collection that reads less like a missionary report and more like a series of vivid short stories: a prostitute finds redemption at a Christian hospital, opium addicts discover freedom, a merchant's daughter chooses a new faith over an old life's comfort. Written in 1914 as a passionate response to critics who dismissed missions as failures and Chinese converts as imitation Christians, these 'photographically true' sketches capture something the statistics never could: the messy, miraculous, deeply human moments when East meets West and lives are transformed. Rosalind Goforth wrote these pages with a simple hope: that readers would see what Paul saw two thousand years ago, that God has made of one blood all nations under heaven.
