Child Labor in City Streets

Published in 1912, 'Child Labor in City Streets' by Edward Nicholas Clopper provides a historical examination of child labor in urban settings, focusing on children engaged in street occupations like newspaper selling and bootblacking. Clopper critiques the public's romanticized view of these young workers, highlighting the harsh realities they face, including detrimental effects on their health and education. The book argues for urgent legislative reform to protect these vulnerable children, emphasizing that previous reform efforts have largely overlooked street laborers. Clopper's work is notable for broadening the discussion on child labor beyond factories and mines to include street conditions.
