Captivity and Escape

Captivity and Escape is a firsthand account by French soldier Jean Martin, detailing his experiences during World War I, likely written in the early 20th century. The narrative follows Martin from his wounding on the battlefield to his capture by German forces, highlighting the brutal realities of prison life and the struggle to maintain hope amidst despair. This work provides a unique perspective on the experiences of French prisoners of war, contrasting with the more common British accounts, and offers insights into the resilience of the human spirit in the face of dehumanization.
