The narrative follows Bill, a larrikin from the Little Lonsdale Street push, as he meets Doreen and their courtship unfolds. This work is notable for its portrayal of Australian life and culture, and it gained immense popularity, selling over 60,000 copies in its first year, including a special edition for soldiers during World War I.
