Bible (Reina Valera) NT 04: Juan
The Gospel of John stands apart from the other three Gospels not for the story it tells, but for how it tells it. Where the others narrate, John meditates. Its opening verses cascade into some of the most haunting poetry in Western literature: 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.' From there, John unfolds the life of Jesus through seven signs that build toward the staggering climax of Lazarus's raising from the dead, a miracle that seals Jesus's fate. The Gospel pulses with Jesus's 'I am' declarations: the bread of life, the light of the world, the good shepherd, the vine. These aren't metaphors but claims that撕裂 the fabric between the sacred and the ordinary. John also gives us the intimate scenes the others omit: the nighttime conversation with Nicodemus, the midday encounter at the well with a Samaritan woman, the tender washing of his disciples' feet, and his final prayer before arrest, where he asks that his followers may be one. This is a Gospel written to persuade, yes, but more importantly, to transfigure. It expects to be read not once but many times, each reading revealing what the reader could not see before.
