Artist and Public, and Other Essays on Art Subjects
Artist and Public, and Other Essays on Art Subjects is a collection of essays by Kenyon Cox, first published in 1914. The essays examine the relationship between artists and their audiences, particularly in the context of societal changes following the French Revolution. Cox critiques the disconnect between modern artists and the public, arguing that true art arises from mutual understanding. He discusses notable figures like Raphael and Jean-François Millet, highlighting the challenges artists face in adapting to evolving tastes and perceptions of art.
