Antologia Brasileira, edited by Eugenio Werneck, was first published in 1900 to celebrate Brazil's fourth centenary. This anthology, one of the most popular didactic texts for teaching Brazilian literature, reached its 22nd edition by 1942. It is divided into two parts: prose and poetry, featuring notable excerpts from significant Brazilian authors from colonial times to the end of the 19th century, each accompanied by biographical notes. The first volume focuses on prose, covering various genres such as narratives, theater, social issues, and history.
