Anselm Feuerbach: Eine Kunstgabe Für Das Deutsche Volk

A tribute to one of Germany's most gifted yet tragically overlooked painters, written in the early 20th century as a gift to the German people. Anselm Feuerbach (1829-1880) emerges here as a figure of extraordinary promise whose classical paintings belied a life of profound struggle. The book traces his journey from childhood prodigy in Düsseldorf through formative years in Antwerp and Paris, to his transformative decades in Rome where he created his masterworks. Here we encounter his muse, Anna Risi, whose presence inspired such iconic paintings as 'Pietà' and 'Medea.' Yet beneath the beauty of his art lay relentless battles with critics, financial hardship, and a burning desire for recognition that never fully arrived in his lifetime. The narrative presents a nuanced portrait of artistic isolation and the emotional cost of dedication to a vision the public could not yet appreciate. This volume captures both the triumph and tragedy of a painter who gave everything to his art, only to die in relative obscurity before his genius was fully recognized.
