An Essay on War, in Blank Verse; Honington Green, a Ballad; the Culprit, an Elegy; and Other Poems, on Various Subjects

Published in 1803, 'An Essay on War, in Blank Verse; Honington Green, a Ballad; the Culprit, an Elegy; and Other Poems' is a collection of poetry by Nathaniel Bloomfield. The work explores themes of war, loss, and human emotions through various poetic forms, with the main piece reflecting on the philosophical implications of war as a natural outcome of human expansion. 'Honington Green' serves as a personal elegy lamenting the loss of a cherished childhood space, while 'The Culprit' presents a dramatic soliloquy on anxiety and despair. Bloomfield's nuanced understanding of the human condition is evident throughout this early 19th-century collection.
