An Essay on the Antient and Modern State of Ireland

An Essay on the Antient and Modern State of Ireland, published in 1760 by Henry Brooke, is a historical account that examines Ireland's past and its socio-political conditions under English rule during the 18th century. The essay discusses three significant periods in Irish history, including the arrival of St. Patrick, and critiques the misconceptions about Ireland held by those returning from abroad. Brooke's work aims to enhance understanding of Ireland's heritage and its influence on contemporary issues, particularly in the context of Catholic civil rights and church history.
