A Treatise on the Six-Nation Indians

A Treatise on the Six-Nation Indians, published in 1882 by J. B. Mackenzie, provides a historical account of the Iroquois tribes: Mohawks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas, Senecas, and Tuscaroras. The book examines their customs, governance, and social structures while highlighting the challenges they faced due to European colonization and interactions with the Canadian government. Mackenzie offers a detailed portrayal of Indigenous life, focusing on the legal status of the tribes and the impact of colonial laws on their rights and culture, making this work a significant commentary on the Indigenous experience in North America during the late 19th century.
