A Review of Uncle Tom's Cabin; Or, an Essay on Slavery

Published in 1853, A. Woodward's 'A Review of Uncle Tom's Cabin; Or, an Essay on Slavery' critically examines the portrayal of slavery in Harriet Beecher Stowe's influential novel. Woodward argues against the anti-slavery sentiments presented in Stowe's work, advocating for a defense of the institution of slavery in the South. He expresses concerns about the impact of abolitionist literature on public opinion and emphasizes the need for a balanced representation of the complexities surrounding slavery, acknowledging both the wrongs and the realities faced by slaves and their masters.
