A Campfire Girl's Test of Friendship

The Camp Fire Girls have arrived at Camp Sunset for what promises to be a transformative summer. Bessie King and Dolly Ransom wake to find the smoke from a nearby forest fire finally clearing, revealing the sparkling lake before them. But their first chance to truly see their surroundings is shadowed by an ongoing tension with girls from a neighboring camp, a dispute born of pride and misunderstanding that has festered between the two groups. When the unexpected visitors arrive not to challenge but to apologize, the girls of Camp Sunset face their own test: can they set aside wounded pride to accept an offered hand? Written in 1914, this is early girls' adventure fiction at its most earnest and affecting, capturing a vanished era of summer camps and mail-order uniforms, of friends made and forgiving. It understands something true about how deeply young friendships can wound and heal, and offers its young readers a quiet, hopeful vision of reconciliation.
