A Brief Bible History: A Survey of the Old and New Testaments

This early 20th-century survey traces the grand arc of biblical narrative from humanity's earliest origins through the establishment of the early church. Written by scholar James Oscar Boyd, it presents the Old Testament as a story of divine purpose unfolding through Abraham, Moses, and the prophets, set against the geographic and cultural landscape of ancient Palestine. The narrative builds toward the New Testament's revelation of God's redeeming grace in Jesus Christ and his Church. Unlike a dry chronological account, this book emphasizes the theological thread connecting every major event: God's persistent call to relationship with creation despite human failure. Originally developed as teacher training material, it strikes a balance between scholarly rigor and accessibility, making complex historical and theological material intelligible for thoughtful general readers. Those seeking to understand how the biblical story hangs together, or looking for a refresher on the sweep of scripture's narrative, will find this a valuable companion.
